Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Zone
Giving potential the opportunity to shine
Potential is everywhere, but not everyone gets the chance to explore theirs. OnSide builds state-of-the-art youth centres, called youth zones, in the UK’s most disadvantaged areas so that young people can discover their passion and purpose. Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Zone will open in spring 2024. It will give 8 to 19-year-olds and young people with a disability aged up to 25 in the borough access to high-quality sports, arts and leisure facilities and activities, seven days a week. Dedicated youth workers will help young people see what they could achieve and give them the skills, confidence and ambition to go for it.
We are pleased to support Hammersmith & Fulham Youth Zone with an unrestricted grant of £150,000 to help them reach their fundraising target and to sponsor an employability room. The new Youth Zone – called WEST – will engage with more than 3,500 young people each year.
- 81% of young people who attend a youth centre say it has a positive impact on their lives.
- 150 to 250 young people will attend sessions at WEST every day.
- 28,000 members use the three existing London youth zones in Barking & Dagenham, Barnet and Croydon.
“We were worried before Camron came to Legacy (Croydon’s Youth Zone), but no one ever made him feel uncomfortable because he’s got autism. He’s made such a positive change in his attitude and behaviour that even his teachers at school have noticed. There’s something here that makes children want to come – it’s brilliant, it’s amazing.”
