Gibraltar’s Mediterranean climate means that locals and tourists of all ages spend the summer months enjoying the local coastline and beaches. However, many people are unaware of the dangers that are present. In just one weekend in May 2024, Gibraltar lifeguards had to make five rescues.

The Rotary Club of Gibraltar have launched a Seaside Safety Campaign aimed at raising awareness of the potential risks and dangers, such as rip currents, offshore winds, sunstroke and stings/bites. It also provides useful information on lifeguard flags and warning signs, and advice on how to respond in an emergency. With our support and in cooperation with several local organisations, the Campaign has designed an information flyer that will be distributed to all school children and tourist sites and displayed permanently at local beaches. You can also view and download the flyer here.

Dr Stephen Barber, from the Rotary Club of Gibraltar said: “Rotary Club is about improving the welfare of our community both locally and internationally. We are very grateful to Kusuma for their support in helping us raise awareness of the importance of beach safety.”
