We have donated £20,000 to Cancer Relief Gibraltar as part of the latest fundraising initiative by the Peter J Isola Foundation. In these unprecedented times many local charities are struggling to deliver their services as fundraising events are cancelled and resources are diverted to support the efforts to contain Covid-19. Peter Isola and Neil Costa, partners of Gibraltar law firm ISOLAS, set themselves a 7-day challenge to raise funds for Cancer Relief Gibraltar after the charity announced that it expected to lose around £100,000 in missed fundraising opportunities and reduced donations.
The challenge, which began on Friday 8 May, will see Neil run 10km a day and Peter cycle 40km a day for a week. If they are successful in meeting their target of raising £50,000, Peter will cycle 50km a day for a further seven days while Neil will continue to run 10km a day and shave his head.If you would like to donate to the cause please visit the Peter J Isola Foundation JustGiving page here.
Marisa Desoiza, Chairperson of Cancer Relief Gibraltar said: “Our charity works hard to ensure continuity and the longevity of the services we offer. Our present goal is to try to recuperate the projected loss of income Covid-19 will have on the charity’s finances. Your amazing donation has gone a long way to make this possible and for this we are extremely grateful.”
Peter Isola commented “there are not many fund-raising situations in which I involve myself directly but I thought this one was particularly important for our community at this time. Cancer Relief provides very important support to people living with cancer in the community. Services range from cancer nurse clinics to counselling services for those individuals affected by cancer. To say that their services are critical and vital within our community would represent a gross understatement.”
