The London Transport Museum have been awarded a grant of over £36,000 to design and pilot an ‘Inspire Engineering Careers’ programme for young people aged 14-18. Our funding will allow them to create resources to address the confusion and concern around employment caused by the pandemic, and at the same time encourage young people to consider engineering careers in the transport industry.
The programme will initially work with 30 students studying STEM to develop and evaluate ways of delivering effective employability support and create online resources that can be rolled out to students across the country. These resources will aim to improve students’ personal effectiveness and ultimately help them become more employable, while at the same time helping them to learn about what it would be like to work in the transport industry. In the future the programme aims to reach more than 1,000 young people per year through live employability sessions and many thousands more through the free online resources.
The London Transport Museum already have learning programmes for younger children and young people on their way into the working world, and we’re glad to support them to fill the gap in their programming for this group.
