In December 2020 we awarded a grant of £31,500 to the Kew Gardens Youth Explainer Programme. This programme provides training for young people in the local area to give them a whole variety of skills and encounters with experts at Kew. It culminates in them creating their own interactive games to engage the public in the Temperate House, one of the worlds largest Victorian glass houses. The young people volunteer for six months, using these games with the public.
The impacts on the young people can be life changing as some consider different subject choices in schools and new career paths. We are looking forward to following the experiences of the 20 young people on the programme this year.
