We are supporting organisations at the forefront of the COVID-19 response to help Londoners weather this difficult time. Food insecurity has been one of the first problems to appear as a result of the crisis and in recognition of this we have given a £10,000 grant to City Harvest, an organisation working to ensure that no one goes hungry.
As part of the London Food Alliance, City Harvest has scaled up its operation, rescuing surplus fresh food from restaurants and wholesalers which would otherwise be thrown away and distributing it to organisations across London. There it can be put to good use, either parcelled up as care packages for vulnerable families, or cooked into healthy and nutritious meals for NHS workers, the elderly and others in need. Our £10,000 donation will enable the delivery of food to make 100,000 meals, helping the city to stay nourished.
