The spirit of unadulterated joy, mischief, mayhem and rebellion was very much alive when our Executive Trustee, Dr Soma Pujari, attended the opening of the new Beano exhibit at Somerset House that we have supported with a grant of over £60,000.
Curated by multimedia artist and musician, Andy Holden, ‘Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules’, is a glorious celebration of Britain’s longest running children’s comic and features original artwork and artefacts from the Beano archive. The exhibition also brings together contributions from writers, musicians, painters, sculptors and photographers who revel in breaking the rules and pushing boundaries, inspired by arch-troublemakers: Dennis, Gnasher, Minnie the Minx and the Bash Street Kids.
Soma was particularly excited to see the contributions from young people to Peter Liversidge’s sign installation. Children and young people visiting the exhibition are invited to create their own rules as part of the final exhibition section.
‘Beano: The Art of Breaking the Rules’ is open until 6 March 2022.
