We are supporting the University of Gibraltar with a grant of over £200,000 for the development of a new School of Health Sciences. The grant will fund the relocation and expansion of the existing School of Health Sciences.

The new school will include a simulation suite with 6 bed spaces, dummy patients, simulated oxygen and suction, nurse call buttons, emergency buzzers, name boards and bed lights, and all the clinical equipment necessary to replicate the local hospital wards. In addition, the school will house classrooms, offices, and rooms to simulate home visits, triage spaces, and to practice delivering bad news to relatives. By offering a realistic, immersive learning environment, the suite will help build students’ confidence, knowledge and understanding, and ensure better care for patients once the students graduate.

The new School of Health Science will provide health and social care students with their first taste of responding to patients’ needs and prepares them thoroughly for the real-world placements that are a critical part of their study programme.
The programmes that will benefit from the suite include Access to Healthcare, Diploma in Nursing, BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing, BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing, BSc (Hons) Paramedic Practice, MSc Contemporary Healthcare, and MSc Advanced Healthcare Practitioner.

“The Kusuma Trust’s generous donation has enabled us to create a state-of-the-art healthcare training facility on the second floor of our North Wing, featuring a six-bedded simulation suite, treatment rooms, and dedicated classrooms. This space provides students with a safe, immersive environment where they can develop essential clinical skills before stepping into real-world healthcare settings. Their support has strengthened healthcare education in Gibraltar and will have a lasting impact on the industries and communities we serve.” Professor Catherine Bachleda, Vice Chancellor and CEO, University of Gibraltar
