King’s College School

Inspiring young entrepreneurs

Each summer for the next three years, students from King’s in south-west London and a range of local state-maintained schools will come together for a holiday programme focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. The King’s Business School will support pupils to develop public speaking, leadership, finance, marketing, and digital skills.

Our grant of £60,840 will fund 20 summer school places each year. These spaces will be allocated to pupils from state schools and King’s students who receive a bursary. Pupils who are prospective first-generation university students will be given priority.

  • Over 1,230 state school pupils are actively engaged with King’s on a weekly basis.
  • In 2022-23 King’s supported 250 first-generation university students.
  • Speakers on the Business School programme include professionals from IBM Consulting, Mindful Chef, ASOS and GoodWork – an inclusive youth employment programme.

Skills for life

Students taking part in King’s Business School will develop skills that prepare them for life after school. The interactive summer school will include workshops, keynote speeches and group tasks on topics such as marketing, social responsibility and financial modelling. Students will learn transferable skills, including pitching and storytelling, oracy and negotiation and how to generate ideas. They’ll also explore key issues facing businesses, such as Al and climate change.

On the final day, students will create and present business plans applying everything they’ve learned. The students presenting the best business plan will be offered an internship at a leading finance organisation.

“This is an exciting project for us because it aspires to bring together pupils from our partnership schools, on fully subsidized places, and King’s pupils for a summer school dedicated to entrepreneurship – a step change in our provision in this vital area for pupils’ futures. The experiences young people will gain from the Business School, working alongside each other and learning from industry leaders, will help prepare them to make a positive impact in the world beyond school.”
