Last year, we funded St John Ambulance to build four Community Support Units, vehicles that can administer first aid at community events across the city, and be a safe and dry place from which volunteers can operate.
In April 2023, the Community Support Units were dispatched to their new homes, with one in Walthamstow, one in Sutton, one in Marylebone, and a fourth roving vehicle to be used wherever it is needed the most. So far, the vehicles have supported several major events including the London Marathon, Notting Hill Carnival and the King’s coronation, as well as many live music events, and other sporting events. The London Marathon is St John Ambulance’s largest deployment of the year, as they are stationed along the route to provide care to the 50,000 runners and many more spectators who attend. Over the coming months the vehicles will support the public at Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day and the Lord Mayor’s Show amongst other events, and we wish the tireless volunteers at St John Ambulance all the best with their work.
