We are pleased to give a grant of £96,000 to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, to fund their new Interoperative Ultrasound Machine and Mobile Image Intensifier.
The Interoperative Ultrasound Machine will produce high-resolution, real-time images to guide surgeons, and is particularly useful for patients undergoing surgery for liver cancer. With this equipment many liver operations will be conducted through minimal access surgery, rather than requiring a large incision leading to a reduced hospital stay, quicker recovery times and improved quality of life.
The Mobile Image Intensifier increases the intensity of available light to offer improved image quality whilst reducing the radiation dose to patients. As it is mobile, it can be used wherever needed in the hospital including producing clear images as the patient is undergoing surgery, rather than being restricted to the radiology department.
The Royal Marsden is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, seeing over 60,000 patients every year, and we are delighted to be able to support their life saving care.
