We are delighted to give a grant of £64,200 to Core Arts towards their St Barnabus Community Garden project. Core Arts are transforming land in St Barnabas’ churchyard in Hackney into a co-designed and user-led community garden. Once developed, the space will provide a teaching area, food growing area, greenhouse, open lawn, micro-plant nursery, pollinator friendly plants, orchard, and will incorporate a fusion of UK woodland planting and tropical inspired planting, reflecting the diverse local cultural background.
Core Arts has 30 years experience of running creative education projects for NHS referred clients who experience severe mental health issues. The new Community Garden created and maintained by local gardening volunteers aims to directly engage 80 students per year referred to them via the NHS, hold corporate events and teach professional gardening classes, all while remaining open to the public.
We look forward to helping create this new garden space and the associated classes.
