On 9 January, our Executive Trustee, Head of Grants and Grants Assistant were invited to visit our partners ‘Thrive Battersea’ to witness the great work that the organisation does with plants and people.
In June 2019 we awarded a grant of £25,000 to Thrive to support their Working it Out programme. It is a therapeutic and employability gardening project for people with physical or mental health problems in London. The programme works with around 50 people in Battersea Park, supporting them along their journey towards (re-)employment. Thrive offers the participants a chance to work towards a City & Guilds Level 1 in Practical Horticulture Skills.
During our visit we were given the opportunity to see some of the programme participants gardening throughout Thrive’s allocated spaces in Battersea Park, and explore the organisation’s offices. It was fascinating to witness first-hand how much our grant is helping Thrive’s valuable work. We look forward to continuing this partnership and seeing how the participants progress over the grant period.
