A new place to stay for the Guides

Girlguiding has been bringing friendship, challenge and adventure to girls and young women around the world for more than a century. As Guides, they find their voice, discover the best in themselves and make a positive difference to their community.

For many, a holiday with their group will include their first ever night away from home.

There had been an outdoor adventure and overnight facility for Guiding in Gibraltar since the 1960s. But it hadn’t been used for 10 years and was in desperate need of updating and expanding.

The Government of Gibraltar funded the remodeling of the old building into the two-storey ‘Rock Lodge’, now able to comfortably accommodate large groups. The new building is completely accessible.

Girlguiding was responsible for the kitting out and furnishing of the hut. They needed beds, tables, chairs and cooking equipment. That’s where our grant came in. We contributed £5,000 to the refurbishment in 2018.

The new lodge will also be available to international Girlguiding and Scouts groups and youth organisations.

The first Girl Guides troop in Gibraltar was formed in summer 1914.
Gibraltar’s new lodge, which we helped to fund, will give over 300 young women the chance to take part in outdoor adventure activities as part of their personal development programme.
The new building will also be available to visiting international Scouts and Guides and other youth groups in Gibraltar to use.
